Columbus model 65 before restoration of chassis and cabinet.

Columbus model 65 from 1939. This dual-wave radio has 6 push-buttons for 6 preselected broadcast stations. The volume and tone controls have their own little indicator dials on the main dial, and a tuning indicator eye. As received it was a no go! The only replacement parts needed were one electrolytic capacitor and one paper capacitor. However the valve sockets and pins required cleaning, and one valve was incorrectly fitted. The metal screens around some of the valves also needed cleaning so they would earth properly. The dial needed restringing and the dial lights needed cleaning their earth and live contacts. The push button mechanisms were cleaned and tuned to local stations. A bit of a tune up, and it goes pretty well on both broadcast and shortwave.

The small volume and tone control dial indicators can be clearly seen here, along with the push button selectors.

Columbus model 65 chassis as received.

The thin horizontal rods in the middle of the chassis are the tuning rods, two for each push button.

Now all that remains is for the cabinet to be fully restored.
